About the event
This month we will conduct a yearly service called the Eitaikyo service. The word is a contraction of the formal term, Ei-tai doku-kyo 永代読経. Ei means eternal, lasting forever. The Chinese character for Ei means a river with many tributaries that flow on forever. Tai means generations and Kyo means sutras, the words of Shakyamuni Buddha. So the word Eitaikyo means to eternally chant or read the sutras in memory of our loved ones for generations and generations forever.
