About the event

The founder of Jodoshinshu (School of the Primal Vow) Shinran Shonin was born near present day Kyoto, Japan in 1173. He lived for 80 years and spent 40 of those years working for the salvation of ordinary human beings from suffering and sorrow. Shinran clarified that we are the recipients of the infinite compassion of Amida Buddha who vowed to save all sentient beings. Shinran died in 1263 on January 16th.

The gathering of Hoonko provides for us an opportunity to express our gratitude for the having received the compassion of Amida Buddha. With a deeper appreciation we can dedicate our lives to practicing kindness in our own everyday lives.
