About the event
Mochi making is a fun and festive event for all to enjoy. Not only is the mochi cakes delicious, but an important cultural event. Kagami Mochi
The name kagami mochi 鏡餅comes from the Buddhist notion of self-reflection. The mochi resembles the ancient metal mirrors found in temples reminding us at New Years to reflect upon ourselves and all that we have received over the past year.
Traditionally a bitter fruit called a Daidai is placed atop the stacked mochi. The Daidai returns to its original green color with age representing a return to youth at the New Year.
